Update 1.5: Massive upgrades!

New 1.5 update!

Hey all!

Welcome to another Outlawyer development update, Steam next fest has arrived, and so we've prepared a new version of the game with a lot of Improvements! (Though currently the new update isn't live on steam, you can play it here on itch.io)

As the previous updates mentioned, we mostly focused on updating the game's visuals and first chapter in anticipation for the Steam next fest. Through the recruiting of new artists (special thanks to Poppyred10 and Faefairy), we've overhauled the already existing graphics to something much more fitting for a game set in Purgatory. We've come a long way!

Improved sprites, UI, and backgrounds

The sprites have been fully shaded and now have both blinking and an improved talking animation compared to release. The Inventory and transcript UI have also been overhauled. Certain backgrounds have also been improved to better reflect the vibe of purgatory!

Upgraded inventory

The Inventory has also been overhauled. Now evidence files rest in Ned's pocket (all the items can fit because Australians have evolved a kangaroo pouch).

Improved transcript

The transcript, which was originally just text on a background, has been fully reinvisioned into a magical book, having the ability to bookmark specific sentences that you might deem useful to note down, as well as icons to show the associated sprite of each statement.

New feature: trial end ratings

On a more important note,  some of you might be wondering why Ned is allowed to be such a goofball and as many times as he wants with no real repercussions in court. While we did consider the idea of a 'health mechanic' similar to the likes of Ace Attorney or something similar. However we decided that the players should be able to choose wrong choices freely without fear of a game over (as many people wish to see what happens), and also in our experience a game over and having to redo everything is annoying. We decided to take a different path in regards to players who screw up a lot: shame them at the end of the game!

(please note that you're incapable of schooling the prosecution as it's impossible for them to make mistakes. Trust us.)

At the end of a chapter's trial section, you will be given a rank based on how many wrong choices you took or mistakes you've made, giving you a ranking depending on your performance. The margin of error between each rank will begin shrinking as you get further into the game, with the difficulty scaling as well. You might think saving Nicky from hell is pretty easy, but can you flawlessly deflect all accusations thrown his way?

Only the true outlawyers can achieve perfection.

That is all,

if you want to support us, then please wishlist us on steam! it's a massive help!

Now that the chapter 1 revamp is done, we can fully move on to chapter two. As a bonus, heres a little teaser:
